Epoxy coatings are widely used for corrosion protection, chemical resistance, and long-term durability in industrial environments. These systems can be tailored into 2-coat or 3-coat applications, depending on performance requirements and environmental exposure. Dry Film Thickness (DFT) can be adjusted up to 1200 microns (1.2 mm) for high-demand sectors such as marine, oil & gas, and heavy infrastructure.
3-Coat Epoxy System
A high-performance protective system consisting of a zinc-rich epoxy primer, an epoxy intermediate (build) coat, and a polyurethane or epoxy topcoat. Designed for aggressive, high-corrosion environments such as offshore platforms, chemical plants, pipelines, and bridges.
Typical Layer Structure:
-
Primer: Zinc-rich epoxy (cathodic protection, excellent adhesion)
-
Intermediate: High-build epoxy (thickness, barrier protection)
-
Topcoat: Polyurethane or epoxy (UV resistance, chemical protection, aesthetics)
DFT Range:
-
300–1200 microns
Key Features:
-
Maximum corrosion resistance in C4–C5 environments (ISO 12944)
-
Excellent mechanical strength and long-term durability
-
Tailored for harsh industrial, coastal, and marine atmospheres
-
Optional topcoat for UV and chemical exposure
2-Coat Epoxy System
A simplified yet robust system using either a primer + topcoat, or a high-build epoxy in two passes. Suitable for medium-duty industrial and structural steel applications where UV exposure is limited or where maintenance accessibility is good.
Configuration Options:
-
Option 1: Primer (epoxy zinc phosphate) + epoxy finish coat
-
Option 2: Two coats of high-build epoxy (single-product system)
DFT Range:
-
200–800 microns
Key Features:
-
Cost-effective and faster to apply
-
Strong adhesion, chemical resistance, and water barrier performance
-
Ideal for structural steel, tanks, and pipelines in mild to moderate environments
-
Can be topcoated with polyurethane for added UV resistance if required
High-Build Epoxy Coatings – Up to 1200 Microns DFT
For environments requiring extreme barrier protection—such as immersion service, buried structures, or splash zones—high-build or reinforced epoxy systems can be applied in single or multiple coats to achieve up to 1200 microns DFT.
Applications:
-
Internal tank linings
-
Offshore structures and subsea equipment
-
Concrete bunds and containment areas
-
Pipe externals in buried or submerged conditions
Benefits:
-
Exceptional chemical and abrasion resistance
-
Reduces underfilm corrosion and delamination risk
-
Extended life cycles and reduced maintenance frequency
